March 2018
Our first GAITEway workshop was split over four weeks in March. From 9–11 AM on Saturday morning, we helped twenty middle school girls from Windemere Ranch Middle School become familiar with coding and even the basic concepts of AI. The session begun with an Artificial Intelligence Presentation. To make things as interesting and interactive as possible, we brought in Anki’s COZMO robots. The girls programmed the robot using block coding to guide the robot through a maze. We then moved on to Python, and created a fun project using our newly learned skills! We also had a guest speaker, Kate Rakelly, come in and talk about her work as a PhD student at UC Berkeley. It was a great experience for the girls to ask questions and understand what it’s like to study and work in the AI field.
A big thank you to Kate, the WRMS PTA, and all our participants!

September 2018
Our second workshop was a full day workshop held at the Chabot Space and Science Center where we hosted 24 girls to learn about AI and Computer Science! The girls learned about the AI concepts and its exciting applications. They moved on to basic Python programming and enjoyed working on developing a Python game. Our guest speaker was Andrea Frome who shared her life story as an AI professional and we had a special visitor from mLab who oversaw us as well!
Thank you to all our amazing participants!
Special thanks to Andrea and the Chabot Space and Science Center for partnering with us!
